Welcome to SUPER MARIO ACTION! An open-world 2D Mario adventure packed with exploration and combat. This is not a full game but more so a proof-of-concept at the moment that showcases the main gameplay.
CONTROLS
Basic Controls
-WASD/Arrow Keys to move; Mario accelerates automatically
-W/Up arrow to jump and swim underwater
*Press jump when stomping enemies to deal extra damage
-Press Z/M while on the ground to punch enemies
-S/down arrow to crouch and open doors
-Press Z/M while in midair to dive
Advanced Moves
-Jump three times in a row to perform a Triple Jump
-Punch three times with good timing to perform a Spin Kick
-Press Z/M while running to perform a Spin Punch (flying enemies can dodge it, however)
-Press down in midair to Ground Pound; jump on impact to perform a Ground Pound Jump
-Press Z/M while crouching to Long Jump
-Press the jump key while crouching in place to perform a Backflip
-Jump while turning directions on the ground to Sideflip
-Press left/right near a wall while midair to wall slide; press W/Up arrow to wall jump
-Press the crouch key while on a slope to slide. Sliding on a steep slope will trigger a Super Roll
GAMEPLAY NOTES
-Press the jump key when stopping an enemy to deal more damage and to create combos
-Defeat enemies to collect Star Bits. Collecting 100 Star Bits will allow you to Level Up, which increases your max HP and attack power
-The amount of Star Bits earned from the enemy is determined by the player's current level, timed presses, combos, and unique moves used to attack
-Every 30 coins you heal a portion of your HP back
-There are over 20 Sprite Shines to collect, including the Super Shine when you defeat a boss, which is worth 3 Shines

And, as always, you for playing! I wanted to make a game that pays homage to the early days of Mario fangames, specifically the Flash games in the early 2000's with their edgy tone and mix & match of 16-bit graphics. Plus I attempted to bridge the gap between the gameplay of 3D Mario and the combat from the role-playing games. This was very experimental and I hope I can continue it in the future, so feel free to share any ideas you may have!
